Beginning XSLT From Novice to Professional by Jeni Tennison

These books both focus on how to achieve particular goals rather than what particular elements or XPaths do. I’ve been trying to learn XSLT literally for years, and I always seemed to get hung up on the notion of exactly what constitutes a “template” in XSLT-speak, and to a lesser extent some of the ins and outs of XPath. It is valuable due to it’s broad and detailed scope if you have time to eventually digest it all, and this is its main drawback.


Lists with This Book. Good book for advanced programmers; could use additional examples of how to use the XSLT tags and functions; would make this an excellent book.

Not only is it good for a rapid leg-up, but it has the depth of coverage to be your one-and-only reference in most cases. I have skimmed through the 2nd edition and was disappointed to see the chapter on schematron was removed.
